Blondie's Blog 7.... What is #Drivenwomen apparently that's me!! (or...Imposter syndrome at it’s finest and most terrifying)

Well, Isn't this exciting ( for little old me anyway) It would appear I am worthy of being a panelist… not been called that before! read on and I shall try to explain.

So, here we are again.

My ramblings are falling randomly from the oft discombobulated and over saturated ovalish thing that sits aloft my (surprisingly strong) shoulders onto this page to assault your long suffering orbs of vision and HOPEFULLY tickle your funny bones a little (even if you are laughing at me not with me) most importantly… you’re reading this so all is good.

What’s happened? well, actually it’s cooler than a cryogenically preserved mammoth. A LOT has happened.

An amazing, splendid, positive (yet strangely terrifying) plethora of encouragement, kindness, belief and trust from many wonderful peoples means that I ( little old me) am to be one of the chosen ones…. ok so not the the cute little 3 eyed aliens that get plucked out of the claw machine (I mean, have you seen the size of my eyes, 3 simply wouldn’t fit on any human head) I have been chosen to be one of a panel of incredible talented ladies that we like to call "Driven women” and will be part of a fledgling campaign started by our friends at the #britishmotorshow to begin to bridge the gap in automotive (both personal and professional) that allowed so many ladies to fall through the gaps that so many males have traditionally managed to stay balanced aloft and risen exponentially in both rank and sportmanship. The worlds changing, women are rising up in many previously male dominated fields and whilst im definitely not a feminist or extreme in my views in any way, it is really nice to see more ladies braving hands on automotive and dipping a toe in the industry.

It’s new, fresh, in it’s infancy but watch this space as it’s rolling along like a determined golden tumbleweed picking up the most amazing people, pulling them into it’s ever growing knots of gloriousness and bringing together an ever increasing bundle of lovely, hard working, positive and talented driven women that, I feel, are going to take the world of motoring and beyond by storm!!

So, first of all, what IS a #Drivenwoman??

It could be any of you. You don’t even need to drive yourself, just have a love of the freedom and the world that wheels of any kind open up to you.

You don’t have to be hands on but, we would happily encourage and guide you if and when you’re ready to get your hands dirty and feel that huge beaming grin spread across your face as it lights up with a roaring triumphant symphony of “I DID IT’s”

We are here for that moment of self proclaiming joy and the knowledge that you CAN. We are also here for the spanner throwing, injury of the week, oil leak, water leak and screaming hissy fit expletive moments as that’s all part of the infuriating yet wonderful world of wheels.

You can fix it “yes you can” (sorry not sorry, bad mum joke) you can race it, rally it, hill climb it, change it’s wheel, air filter, oil, sparks, even…as time goes on… change bushes and rebuild a carb (for those of you that have vintage cars) maybe… even show the chaps a thing or two!

You can do whatever you want to do. Sure! You’ll make mistakes, embarres yourself (have you seen my dreadful video’s…I really need to learn to smile)

You will break things, bruise yourself in the weirdest places (tip - don’t sit down when climbing across 2 front seats it really hurts us ladies!) You’ll most definitely swear a lot ( see previous brackets, I can still hear the words ringing now weeks later) BUT… in the long term you will feel so utterly, ridiculously, unashamedly proud of yourself.

I know I do, and rightly so. we all have hills to climb, but theres no such thing as a mountain too high (there’s a song there somewhere) obstacles to dodge and self doubt is a crippling thing.

But, I did it despite the long and daunting odds (long story for another time that I’ve touched on a little bit in previous blogs but I prefer to look forward not back) and hopefully I’m bringing as many of you ladies, newbies, differently able (or whatever we are calling it these days) as possible along for the ride!

THAT’s why I’m a #drivenwomen

Please stay tuned for part two ( when i get a moment as I would love to explain a little more about the other panelists. there’s some amazing ladies from the industry with inspirational stories and there’s our Sarah (Crabbers of Evoke classics) who will be interviewing/hosting us all plus, the proper automotive royalty lady that is Vicki Butler Henderson whom im sure we ALL know and look up to!

thank you as always and please, check my socials and follow myself and our little company! the more people we can reach the bigger the change we can make. I am posting more and more hands on advice video’s with basic car maintenance as time allows.

Stay safe keep smiling and keep being driven. We only have a certain amount of heartbeats (as i well know) so enjoy them!
